"Things aren't always as they seem"

When asked what I am striving for with my photographs I stumbled. “I don’t know” is unacceptable, as well as incorrect. I get very caught up in things; go off in a tangent so to speak. Even though there is a part of me in all of my photographs, I think I have been avoiding the why, paying too much attention to the how. But that still led me to what I was striving for… detail, the minute & overlooked

We are surrounded, everyday, all of the time, by beautiful wondrous things. Often times it is right in front of us, and we miss it. The lighting is wrong, bad angle, it is too small to see, or we simply do not look hard enough to see or notice the details in the most common of things. I have always been a very detail oriented person, which was one of my strong points during my technical career. But somewhere along the way, amidst marriage, kids, and working for a living it became somewhat buried, until I returned to school. I started exploring this with my series, Quadruplicity, the piercings. The unnoticed details around us that we tend to miss - overlook, thus the macro. Then when I caught the light coming through an ear I went off in a new direction, capturing the light passing through – transference, but still with the up close and personal detail. So, I guess I have known all along what I am going for, maybe got a little consumed by the technical side, that is something that is a big part of me. I do not think I can, or want to change that.

Whether it is a homeless person on the street, the injustices and lies that we are fed daily, or a simple piece of fruit, it boils down to focusing on that which we normally do not see, unless, we are paying attention.
